​Morrison Hershfield (MH) is a leading provider of engineering, planning, environmental services and sustainable design, and we have a wide range of federal, provincial, municipal and private clients. We provide practical environmental solutions for interesting and complex projects. Reporting to the Director of Environmental Services, the incumbent will serve as an Fisheries/Biologists Environmental Planner within the Environmental Services business unit, leading and/or providing senior technical leadership on these aspects of projects. The incumbent will play an important role in the building of the business unit's Environmental practice in Eastern Canada and elsewhere.  There will be an opportunity to work on a variety of environmental and engineering projects, working with all of Morrison Hershfield's business units and some travel will be required.

  • Provide technical and strategic input to the growth of MH's Environmental Services business unit in Eastern Canada and across Canada
  • Provide peer review of biophysical technical work
  • Mentor and coach of junior staff

Business Development / Client Relationship Management

  • Play a key role in building MH's already strong reputation for delivery of specialized Biophysical / Environmental Regulatory services to existing clients – with a primary focus on the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, Metrolinx, Municipalities within the GTHA - as well as to new clients and sectors
  • Leverage existing client relationship, establish and foster new client relationships is integral to this task
  • Create winning proposals



  • Bachelor's of Science in Fisheries Biology (or related field)
  • Minimum 6 years of diversified experience in fisheries impact assessment and fisheries biology
  • Consulting experience working with various levels of government and the private sector
  • Direct experience and success working within the regulatory environment in Ontario and obtaining permits (e.g. Endangered Species Act, Conservation Authorities Act)
  • Strong knowledge of the Ontario/Federal environmental regulatory and approvals regime including SAR
  • Applied experience in fisheries biology with strong fish identification skills
  • Previous experience conducting biophysical baseline and/or monitoring projects that comply with Environmental Assessment requirements would be an asset (MTO Class EA process)
  • Strong technical report writing skills and the ability to compile field data into summary reports (i.e. Fish and Fish Habitat Assessment, Fisheries Impact Assessment Reports)
  • Must be comfortable and feel safe working in and around water and working in all weather conditions
  • Previous experience conducting biophysical baseline and/or monitoring projects that comply with Environmental Assessment requirements required (MTO Class EA process)
  • Proven project management track record of managing project teams, quality, budget and schedule
  • Proficient with Windows Office (Word, Excel)
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle
  • Any experience with environmental inspection during construction is an asset
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
