​Morrison Hershfield is a leading provider of engineering, planning, environmental services and sustainable design, and we have a wide range of federal, provincial, municipal and private clients. We provide practical environmental solutions for interesting and complex projects. Reporting to the Director of Environmental Services ,the incumbent will serve as an Terrestrial Biologist within the Environmental Services business unit, leading and/or providing senior technical leadership on these aspects of projects. The incumbent will play an important role in the building of the business unit's Environmental practice in Eastern Canada and elsewhere.  There will be an opportunity to work on a variety of environmental and engineering projects, working with all of Morrison Hershfield's business units and some travel will be required.

  • Provide technical and strategic input to the growth of MH's Environmental Services Business Unit in Eastern Canada and across Canada. 
  • Provide peer review of biophysical technical work
  • Mentor and coach junior staff.

Business Development / Client Relationship Management

  • Play a key role in building MH's already strong reputation for delivery of specialized Biophysical / Environmental Regulatory services to existing clients – with a primary focus on the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, Metrolinx, Municipalities within the GTHA - as well as to new clients and sectors
  • Leverage existing client relationships, establish and foster new client relationships is integral 
  • Create winning proposals




  • Bachelor's of Science in Biology or Ecology (or related field)
  • Minimum 6 years of diversified experience in Wildlife Biology, Botany and Terrestrial Ecology (consulting experience strongly preferred)
  • Proven project management track record of managing project teams, quality, budget and schedule
  • Strong knowledge of the Ontario/Federal environmental regulatory and approvals regime including SAR
  • Consulting experience working with various levels of government and the private sector
  • Direct experience and success working within the regulatory environment in Ontario
  • Applied experience in biology and plant and wildlife ecology, including plant and tree identification skills as well as wildlife identification skills
  • Ability to conduct nest inventories and Breeding bird surveys is an asset
  • OMNR certification in Ecological Land Classification for Southern Ontario, and the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System preferred
  • ISA arborist certification is an asset
  • Previous experience conducting biophysical baseline and/or monitoring projects that comply with Environmental Assessment requirements required (MTO Class EA process)
  • Must have strong technical report writing skills and the ability to compile field data into summary reports
  • Proficient with Windows Office (Word, Excel)
  • Valid Ontario driver's license and access to a vehicle
  • Any experience with environmental inspection during construction is an asset
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
