Overview

We are looking for a Resident Engineer to join our Infrastructure team in Ethiopia. This individual will be in charge of managing large integrated construction contracts on site and to undertake inspections to ensure the contractor's work is as per the drawings and specifications. The successful candidate will be prepared to work on-site in Ethiopia on a full time basis.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Interface with Engineering, Procurement, Contract Administration, Project Controls and others as necessary to help ensure successful project delivery
  • Overall accountability for successful construction of project work
  • Client liaison functions
  • Review construction material quantities and process monthly progress payments
  • Work with our local partner and local construction management staff
  • Deliver site work within scope, schedule and budget
  • Report to Project Manager on all construction activities that impact project decisions
  • Coordinate work of various construction contractors on site
  • Ensure construction contractors are performing work in accordance with their contracts and the established construction schedule
  • Responsible for ensuring understanding of approved changes by the contractors
  • Establish schedule of meetings with construction contractors, construction support services team and project team
  • As required, review engineering designs for constructability and feasibility of coordination with other site work
  • Be an ambassador of MH both internally and externally
  • Ensure project safety standards and environmental programs are adhered to
  • Provide regular project status reports
  • Assist in negotiation of claims/disputes with the owner and sub-contractors/suppliers

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant Engineering Construction Management/Monitoring in one or more of the following areas: civil site works, underground utilities, building construction, concrete structures, process piping and related systems.
  • Experience with large wastewater treatment facilities will be considered as an asset
  • Relevant Canadian post-secondary degree or diploma, or a trades background with equivalent proven experience: Engineering, Construction/Project Management (P.Eng, P.E., C.E.T., PMI)
  • Capability to provide leadership and co-ordination to project team members
  • Working knowledge of construction survey for layout and quantities
  • Proven organizational, planning, facilitation and communication skills
  • Proven stakeholder relationship, presentation, and reporting/documentation skills
  • Experience in a consulting Engineering environment preferred
  • Must be aware of the OH&S requirements and the need to operate a safe construction site
  • Ability to relocate to Ethiopia for 6 months
