Morrison Hershfield's Infrastructure Division provides planning, design and construction administration services for municipal infrastructure, road, rail, and transit projects. We are currently seeking a highly motivated Railway Engineer to join our dynamic Transit Infrastructure Team located in our Burlington office.  This position can be located in either Burlington or Markham.

  • Designing heavy rail and/or LRT track and railway infrastructures in accordance with the quality objectives and regulations, laws and standards; (ex. AREMA, Metrolinx, CN and CP Rail, TCRP 155)
  • Prepare and interpret specifications
  • Be able to supervise a project team, ensuring the quality of work and compliance with the regulations, laws and standards
  • Provide technical support during the construction of structures and coordinate the work supervision
  • Participate in the planning stages, design and construction of the project
  • Prepare reports on the execution of the work and follow the schedule
  • Participate in the activities of cost estimates and recommend payments
  • Participate in the preparation of technical specifications and bidding documents and assist in the analysis of bids
  • Perform detailed technical analysis, interpret data, make summaries and draft reports


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • P.Eng. designation or eligible to be registered
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in the design of railway and/or LRT infrastructure
  • Solid experience utilizing AutoCAD/Civil 3D is a must
  • Familiar with Microstation/InRoads is desired
  • Experience in project management of public or private infrastructures
  • Site experience working in railway/LRT
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in order to meet cost targets, quality targets and deadlines
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with the various parties involved in the process
  • Time management skills and ability to adapt to change
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
