Overview

Morrison Hershfield Limited is looking for a Senior Code Consultant for our Markham office. This role will be focused on delivering Code Consulting projects to clients and internally within MH.  The position will involve the application of Building and Fire Codes to all occupancies and building types, including new construction and renovations, and the application of fire and life safety principles to support alternative solutions and deliver innovative Code solutions to clients.  The position requires expert knowledge of the Building Codes, Fire Codes, related standards, building approvals processes including how to negotiate with authorities having jurisdiction, understanding of design and construction issues, and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will work in a team environment, working closely with clients and acting as a technical mentor internal to MH as well as to build MH's reputation in the design and construction industry.  The position will also involve sales and marketing to further grow and develop Code consulting in the local market.

Responsibilities

  • ​Apply Building and Fire Codes to new building designs as well as to existing buildings and renovations
  • Prepare Code reports and other technical communication
  • Support internal and external clients by advising on application of Codes and standards
  • Coordinate project teams including other staff, contractors and other technical disciplines for successful project delivery
  • Investigate, advise, and solve unusual design and Code problems
  • Prepare project proposals and liaise with clients to understand their needs and identify new opportunities
  • Identify new clients and opportunities to expand Code Consulting services
  • Manage projects and be the primary client contact

 

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering or Diploma in Fire Protection
  • Minimum 10 years of Code consulting experience
  • Ability to conduct business development - sales is required
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and persuasively
  • Strong technical skills and strong knowledge of Building and Fire Codes and related standards, Ontario and National Code knowledge is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and communicate with clients, authorities and contractors
