Overview

Morrison Hershfield's Building Science Group provides planning, design, and construction administration services for a vast array of building types and uses. We are currently seeking a a Field Technician to complement our Building Sciences team in our Salt Lake City office to play a lead role in the delivery of building envelope related field work, including building condition assessments/evaluations, site reviews on the building envelope, project management, and field testing.  Due to expanding business opportunities in Salt Lake City and elsewhere within the company, this position offers potential for growth in the areas of technical / professional development and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineering staff in carrying out field investigation work and the diagnosis of building problems required to design building envelope repairs
  • Manage, coordinate, and lead the execution of on-site field testing, primarily related to air/water testing and whole building air leakage testing
  • Conduct site observations during new construction progress to review the building envelope against the drawings, specifications, and other project requirements
  • Develop site visit reports summarizing the site observations and field testing
  • Perform submittal and shop drawing reviews
  • Review architectural drawings and specifications

 

Qualifications

  • Technical/technologist degree is ideal, but not required
  • Minimum 4 years of experience
  • High mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills
  • Experience on construction sites and working with contractors
  • Fundamental knowledge of building science/envelope principles
  • Ability to work in a team to execute technical work on time
  • Appreciation of physical work with the ability to work outside year round
  • Computer skills to review drawings (Bluebeam) and write reports
  • Ability to read and understand architectural drawings and shop drawings
