We are currently looking for a talented, accountable Intermediate Bridge Engineer to complement our skilled team in the Transportation Structures Department in our Markham office. Due to expanding business opportunities in Ontario and Western Canada, this position offers potential for growth in the areas of technical / professional development and project management by working on interesting transportation structure projects of all types and sizes.

Responsibilities

  • Act as structural lead and designer for small and medium sized engineering assignments, with intent to develop skills toward a future discipline lead/project manager role for larger projects
  • Attend site visits related to pre-design information gathering, construction and post-construction review
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines including highway/road, electrical, drainage and environmental planning
  • Perform structural analysis and evaluation
  • Analyze, evaluate appropriate design solutions and design of transportation structures including bridges, culverts, retaining walls and foundation
  • Direct CAD team for drawing preparation including preparation of sketches and notes for CAD team, and review deliverables prior to submission to client
  • Prepare and review technical reports, tender documents and cost estimate
  • Provide tender evaluations and/or construction engineering services.
  • Work within assigned project budgets and schedules
  • Mentor junior staff with regards to project work

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • B.A.Sc or B.Eng. in Civil/Structural engineering, with strong interest and experience in structures, particularly bridges
  • P.Eng. status and minimum 4 years of experience in design using Canadian codes and design standards. The majority of the experience must be in the consulting industry with transportation structure related projects
  • Interest in working both in the office and the field environment
  • Ability to perform outdoor physical duties while doing bridge inspection work
  • Valid Ontario driver's license
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with CAD and SAP2000, CSiBridge, MIDAS, SFRAME
  • Knowledge and experience of MTO and City of Toronto Standards and Manual is a plus
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • The successful candidate must be able to work in a team environment and excel in both bridge and multi-disciplined projects
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to mentor technical development of others
  • Self-motivated and able to work under pressure
  • Works well with minimal direct supervision
  • Exercises independent judgment
