Overview

Morrison Hershfield has extensive experience in electrical and mechanical systems for various types of buildings and facilities, and for a wide spectrum of applications. We work independently on stand-alone electrical and mechanical projects or together with architects and engineers of other specialties on multi-disciplinary projects to provide integrated solutions that address the particular requirements of our clients. Our committed team of engineers and designers provide services to many client sectors, including transit, institutional, industrial, commercial, educational and health care. We specialize in the design of systems for mission-critical facilities in the government, telecommunications and financial sectors. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to complement our M & E team in our Markham office. This candidate will play a lead role in assisting our clients in all phases of the design process, from functional planning and conceptual layout through to detailed design and construction support.

Responsibilities

 

  • Prepares mechanical construction drawings in conjunction with an architectural, structural and electrical design team
  • Prepare designs for commercial ductwork, chilled water plants, plumbing systems, fuel storage and limited fire suppression systems
  • Document study progress/results through the preparation of memos, minutes and reports as a record of events
  • Conducts site visit surveys of buildings for the purpose of collecting design information related to mechanical systems, fire suppression and plumbing as they relate to building design
  • Prepares field information documentation of site visit surveys
  • Assist in review of shop drawings and equipment submittals for compliance with construction document requirements
  • Assist in providing field construction administration support (inspections, punch list generation, project close-out)
  • Adhere to corporate quality control and assurance processes for all mechanical design work in the local office
  • Prepare HVAC load calculations using Carrier HAP program
  • There will be occasional field work and minimal travel requirements

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • P.Eng. designation is an asset
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with mechanical systems, preferably in the consulting engineering industry
  • Strong knowledge of the application of standard mechanical engineering methods and techniques
  • Experience in diverse mechanical building services projects, including boilers, chillers, rooftop, HVAC and head end systems
  • Plumbing knowledge & fire suppression experience
  • Ability to provide leadership to project teams and liaise with clients, contractors and authorities
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD will be considered an asset with the ability to effectively communicate mechanical design intent to CAD staff
