Overview

 

Morrison Hershfield's Building Science Group provides planning, design and construction administration services for a vast array of building types and uses. We are currently seeking a Building Science Consultant to complement our Building Sciences team in our Calgary office to play a variety of roles in the delivery of building condition assessment/evaluations, building envelope design and field review, and field performance testing. Due to expanding business opportunities Alberta and elsewhere within the company, this position offers potential for growth in the areas of technical / professional development and project management.

Responsibilities

 

  • Perform visual site reviews of facilities and related building systems (architectural, structural and building envelope)
  • Interact with client contacts to obtain relevant information on building history, maintenance practices and current performance
  • Review building documentation (drawings, previous reports)
  • Develop opinions of probable cost for corrective measures and life cycle replacements
  • Accurately document findings in a variety of report formats
  • Perform field work on new and existing buildings to ensure adherence to contract documents and good engineering practices
  • Undertake field performance testing of selected elements of building envelope assemblies to confirm compliance with specified performance standards

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Building Science or related field
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment with a strong customer service commitment
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and life safety systems considered an asset
  • Experience with capital planning database applications considered an asset
  • Occasional necessity to travel
