Overview

Morrison Hershfield's Building Science Group provides planning, design and construction administration services for a vast array of building types and uses. We are currently seeking a Façade Structural Engineer to complement our Building Sciences team in our Calgary, Edmonton, or Vancouver Office to play a variety of roles in the delivery of building façade and substructure design. Due to expanding business opportunities in façade engineering within the company, this position offers potential for growth in the areas of technical/professional development and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform "secondary structure" design for both high-rise and low-rise buildings (curtainwall and cladding attachment systems, guardrails, stairs, roof anchors, etc.)
  • Prepare plans, designs, calculations, analyses in accordance with established codes, standards, drawings and other specifications
  • Use standard structural engineering software or hand calculations
  • Prepare and review written reports
  • Coordinate work such that deliverables are achieved on time and within budget
  • Deal directly with clients and/or contractors to resolve issues and ensure positive outcomes on projects
  • Apply engineering judgment to resolve building envelope design and construction related problems
  • Perform other duties associated with working in a professional engineering environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field, 
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Registered EIT and eligible to become P.Eng. when necessary years of experience are acquired
  • Exceptional attention to detail, specifically with accuracy in calculations and completeness of data
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced, deadline oriented environment
  • Self-motivated and strong commitment to team work
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of building codes, analysis and design procedures
  • Computer skills: MS Office, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Structural Analysis Software
  • Experience with American Building Codes (IBC, ASCE 07) is an asset
  • Experience in aluminum design is an asset
  • Comfortable working with heights
  • Occasional necessity to travel
