Overview

Morrison Hershfield is a market leading employee owned company.  Our Building Science business unit and more specifically our facade engineering group is involved in technically challenging and architecturally prominent projects all over North America. We are currently seeking an experienced façade engineer who would take a leading role with secondary structures and participate in the technical mentoring and business development within this group.  This position is located in either our Calgary, Vancouver or Seattle office and will offer a significant potential for growth as it aligns with our strategic vision.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop MH’s profile both internal to and external to the organization in the practice area, with the objective of developing awareness within the professional community of MH’s leadership and expertise within the practice area
  • Publish practice relevant technical papers and presentations on items within the industry to recognized professional organizations.  In doing so, elevate the technical pre-eminence of the BU and MH as a whole
  • Assist and advise the Business Unit in development of in-house practice standards, templates for proposals and project deliverables, and training and development for our staff
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight on all significant projects within the scope of the practice area and be available to the project delivery teams as and when needed.  This activity is directly project related and is to be charged to the project as appropriate.  Attend project start-up and progress meetings where appropriate, and provide general oversight to assure appropriate concepts and approaches are being followed in project execution.  Provide and offer guidance to project teams
  • Provide regular coordination of Façade team members typically on project execution and delivery matters and assist Practice Lead in the day to day operational oversight of the team by providing input on project delivery timelines, schedule commitments and project status. Assist the team in meeting quality requirements and delivering to the quality expectations of the client
  • Lead, advise and assist as appropriate in business development efforts to secure high value projects.  Prepare and execute business development strategies to build the practice area at desirable profit margins.  Assist and support client managers and department managers in all aspects of business development, marketing and sales plans and initiatives, and project execution
  • Attend client meetings, interviews and presentations as required to further develop the practice area
  • Develop the trusted advisor relationship with new and existing clients
  • Lead and deliver complex projects within the practice area and act as an advisor to project managers on all client and internal project matters
  • Ensure clients’ needs are met in a timely and cost effective manner
  • Foster collaboration and sharing of resources between the various departments within Canada and the US

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Science preferably with a background in Building Science
  • Professional Engineering, Architectural state license or accreditation in the area of your expertise
  • Minimum 10 years related work experience, including performing construction reviews
  • Excellent knowledge of Building Science Principles, Industry Codes and Standards, and common Building Envelope Assemblies and Materials including Rain Screen Principles, Air barrier and Thermal Performance
  • Expert knowledge and focus in Façade Engineering
  • Proven Leadership and Business Development skills
  • Ability to set goals and manage priorities
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and effectively prioritize
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
  • Professional attitude towards management and interpersonal communication
  • Excellent computer skills
