Overview

Morrison Hershfield is a market leading employee owned company.  Our Building Science business unit and more specifically our facade engineering group is involved in technically challenging and architecturally prominent projects all over North America. We are currently seeking an experienced façade engineer who would take a leading role with secondary structures and participate in the technical mentoring and business development within this group.  This position is located in either our Calgary, Vancouver or Seattle office and will offer a significant potential for growth as it aligns with our strategic vision.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or deliver complex projects within the practice area (secondary structure)
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight on significant projects within the scope of the practice area and be available to the project delivery teams. This may involve attending project start-up and progress meetings where appropriate, and providing general oversight to assure appropriate concepts and approaches are being followed in project execution
  • Lead, advise and assist as appropriate in business development efforts to secure high value projects
  • Prepare and execute business development strategies to build the practice area
  • Assist and support client managers and department managers in all aspects of business development, marketing and sales plans and initiatives
  • Assist and advise the Business Unit in development of in-house practice standards, templates for proposals and project deliverables, and training and development for our staff
  • Mentor and develop staff to support growth in area of practice
  • Maintain and develop Morrison Hershfield's profile both internal and external to the organization in the practice area, with the objective of developing awareness within the professional community of Morrison Hershfield's leadership and expertise
  • Publish practice relevant technical papers and presentations on items within the industry to recognized professional organizations

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering with profession registration.
  • Minimum 10 years related work experience
  • Expert knowledge and focus on aspects of structural engineering including cladding attachments, railings, glass and anchors, industry codes and standards
  • Understanding of common Building Envelope Assemblies and Materials including Rain Screen Principles, Air barrier and Thermal Performance
  • Proven leadership skills, ability to set goals and manage priorities
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
  • Professional attitude toward management and interpersonal communication
  • Excellent computer skills
