We are currently seeking a Mechanical Designer to complement our skilled team in the Calgary Office.  This candidate will play a lead role in assisting our clients in all phases of the design process, from functional planning and conceptual layout through to detailed design and construction support.




  • Perform detailed calculations for mechanical design as well as drafting of one's work
  • Prepare design for review and stamping by senior mechanical staff
  • Write reports based on the mechanical analysis of existing buildings and other structures
  • Extensive site visits associated with the delivery of Mechanical Design and Commissioning services in and around the Calgary area with possible one or two day site visits throughout Alberta and BC
  • Attend meetings and coordinate work as related to mechanical design with other disciplines and team members, including, electrical, structural, civil, building code, building envelope/science, and other specialty services at Morrison Hershfield
  • Liaison/coordination with clients, contractors and authorities having jurisdiction
  • Work within an assigned project budget and schedule



  • ​​Minimum 4 years of experience in HVAC design or maintenance
  • Diploma/Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Technology/Engineering or equivalent education
  • Strong familiarity with construction documentation including drawings and specifications
  • Interest in buildings, commissioning and energy
  • Desire to divide time between on-site activities and office administrative duties
  • Ability to work independently with little/no daily supervision
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical controls, plumbing, fire protection
  • Strong demonstrated written and oral communication skills in English
  • Strong understanding of the consulting engineering business
  • Experience with both AutoCad and Revit
  • The successful candidate must be able to work in a team environment and excel in multi-disciplined projects
