Morrison Hershfield’s Mechanical team within our Mission Critical Facilities group, undertakes work for a variety of clients in the private and public sectors. Applications HVAC, plumbing and fire suppression design for mission-critical facilities.


The Senior Mechanical Engineer will complement our Mission Critical Facilities group in our Markham office.


  • Conduct engineering/architecture/planning options comparisons by undertaking multi-factor assessments to select preferred cost-effective alternatives
  • Prepare contract drawings and specifications in conjunction with project team for delivery to client
  • Document study progress/results through the preparation of memos, minutes and reports as a record of events
  • Provide direction to project team members and support staff through verbal and written instructions and assign work to appropriate individuals
  • Liaise with clients to exchange information re: project progress
  • Provide technical judgement
  • Conduct business development activities to secure new projects by client liaison and proposal preparation
  • Prepare site visit reports by interpreting findings to give clear recommendations and direction to clients
  • Review shop drawings and design details by analyzing for continuity and viability
  • Certify professional work


  • Bachelor’s degree and P.Eng.
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical systems, specifically related to industrial, institutional, and commercial buildings, preferably in the consulting engineering industry
  • Strong knowledge of building services, controls, HVAC, plumbing and drainage and fire protection
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in energy conservation work, energy modelling and IAQ
  • Experience with quality control and production scheduling is preferred
  • Ability to liaise with clients and contractors
  • Ability to manage a team of technical staff is an asset
