Morrison Hershfield's Building Science Group provides planning, design and construction administration services for a vast array of building types and uses. We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Building Science Consultant to lead our Building Sciences effort in a newly established San Francisco office. The successful individual would play a lead role in the delivery of new construction projects and managing the opportunities from the proposal stage through to completion.  Due to expanding business opportunities in California, this position offers significant potential for growth in the areas of technical leadership and management including the possibility to manage a growing department.

Working as a project manager for several construction projects, the Senior Building Science Consultant will deliver the current work while helping to grow MH's presence in San Francisco and in the region:

  • Coordinate and assign engineering activities and work (with the support of other western offices)
  • Supervise field staff and assist in field work on assessment and construction projects, mentor and provide guidance to young professional in a growing office
  • Prepare and/or approve technical documentation including design reviews, shop drawing reviews, and field reports
  • Provide recommendations and expert advice on designs, methods, and theories
  • Interface with owners, design professionals, general contractors, and sub-trades
  • Prepare proposals
  • Act as primary client contact
  • May also involve the review of contracts

In addition, as the group grows, there is potential to:

  • Manage staff performance and development
  • Manage group's financial performance
  • Provide leadership through setting expectations


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Building Science or related field
  • Minimum 6 years of work experience in the Building Science field
  • 3 to 5 years of work experience in project management
  • Knowledge in areas related to building science such as mechanical engineering and/or building structures an asset
  • Strong business acumen and vision
  • Understanding of organizations priorities and ability to make trade-off decisions
  • Exceptional attention to detail, specifically in accuracy of calculations and completeness of data
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a strong customer service commitment
  • Proficiency with MS Office. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
