Overview

Morrison Hershfield is an employee-owned consulting engineering firm with offices across Canada and the US. Our strong national Transportation Group has a high performance design team comprised of engineers, technicians and support personnel with their diverse backgrounds in design and construction, committed to delivering excellent technical work and customer service to our clients and has earned an exceptional reputation through its multi-disciplined transportation projects in Canada.

We are currently looking for a talented, accountable Senior Bridge Engineer to complement our skilled team in our Markham Office. Due to expanding business opportunities in Ontario and Western Canada, this position offers significant potential for growth in the areas of technical / professional development and project management by working on interesting transportation structure projects of all types and sizes.

Responsibilities

  • Act as project manager, structural lead and designer for engineering assignments;
  • Attend site visits related to pre-design information gathering, construction and post-construction review;
  • Coordinate work with clients and other disciplines including highway/road, electrical, drainage and environmental planning;
  • Analysis, evaluate appropriate design solutions and design of transportation structures including bridges, culverts, retaining walls and foundations;
  • Direct CAD team for drawing preparation and review deliverables prior to submission to client;
  • Prepare and review technical reports, tender documents and cost estimate;
  • Provide tender evaluations and/or construction engineering services;
  • Work within assigned project budgets and schedules;
  • Business development and proposal preparation; and
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff with regards to project work.

Qualifications

  • B.ASc. or B.Eng. in civil/structural engineering, with strong interest and experience in structures, particularly bridges.
  • P.Eng. status and 6+ years' proven experience in design using Canadian codes and design standards. The majority of the experience should be in the consulting industry with transportation structure related projects.
  • Interest in working both in the office and the field environment.
  • Experience in project management is an asset.
  • Ability to perform outdoor physical duties while doing bridge inspection work.
  • Valid Ontario driver's license.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with CAD and SAP2000, CSiBridge, SFRAME.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to work in a team environment and excel in both bridge and multi-disciplined projects.
  • Proven ability to supervise, direct and mentor junior staff.
  • Demonstrated interest in business development activates and preparation of proposals.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to direct a team and mentor technical development of others.
  • Works well with minimal direct supervision.
  • Exercises independent judgment.
